Back Gallery Project and Pattison Art in Transit are presenting the anticipated third and final iteration of their Strathcona Billboard Project with Annie Briard’s public art work Any Day Now as part of Capture Photography Festival.

Instructor and MAA alumna Annie Briard ('13) creates moving images and lens-focused work to confront visual perception and the interpretation of what we see. Her practice exploits elements that influence vision including embodiment, reverie, and ocular phenomena. By decontextualizing what the viewer expects of billboards, using the optical recursive void and offering a stereoscopic 3D viewing potential, Any Day Now underlines connections between visual attention, wonder, and possibility.

Second year MDes candidate Caylee Raber (BDes '10) has been named one of the Top 25 finalists of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's 2015 Storytellers Challenge.

We are happy to celebrate the successful installation of a "Harmonograph Swingset" at this year's TED conference, hosted in Vancouver. A sculpture by Carly Stadelmann and Emily Carr University employee Jeremy Wong literally made waves inviting thousands of global visitors at TED to create interactive art pieces.

The Prism Prize recently announced the Top Ten Best Canadian Music Videos of 2014, including a nomination for Emily Carr alumnus Kheaven Lewandowski ('10), for directing "Same Temptation" by Fur Trade. Kheaven, who holds a Bachelor’s of Design degree from Emily Carr University, won the 2014 Prism Prize Audience Award for The Belle Game’s “River” last year.

The Burrard Arts Foundation welcomes Sean Mills ('10) as their new artist in residence. Sean's residency will culminate in a solo exhibition of his work at the Burrard Arts Foundation in May 2015.

Sean will work on a new body of work that explores his interest in light, transparency and especially pushing the boundaries of paint. Sean is interested in the ability of paint to both occupy and contain space, its interaction with light, and the effects of time, labour, and process.

Unity Gallery is pleased to present new work by Vancouver artists Scott Bowering and Deirdre McAdams ('08).

Topographics, curated by current student Dan Brown Hozjan and alumna Zandi Dandizette (’14), opens at James Black Gallery and features work by emerging local artists, Emily Carr students and alumni. This exhibition explores landscapes of the imagination. The artists involved reflect on the wild places that we travel to in dreams or the land that exists beyond the edge of the last horizon. Landscapes are expressed through a multiplicity of disciplines, from painting and photography to sculpture and performance.
