The Life and Death of Wriggly Chew

Jacqueline Koehler (07) won second place in the Continuing Education Category, open to students studying animation at the post-secondary level. Her film, The Life and Death of Wriggly Chew, follows the rhythmic existence of a piece of chewing gum.

Andrew Ford (07) takes home second prize for his film Stillwaters, in the Most Promising Student Category, for students graduating from a post-secondary animation program.

Her design concepts have been featured in newspapers, magazines and feature films, as well as corporate collections, show homes and exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.

Pierre Leichner (07) has a solo exhibition at Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver, October 4 – November 23, 2007. With the show Men’s Battles, the artist invites us to explore the perpetual aggression of men and he questions the relations between sexual behaviour and territorial wars. Playing on paradox, irony and the viewer’s surprise, his photographs are at one and the same time beautiful and intelligent, and express – not without a certain violence – the continuity that persists in the bellicose desire for change.

Launi Lucas (87) is co-organizer of Revision - the art of recycling, a two-day juried show featuring recycled artwork: art made from anything reused, recycled, salvaged, scrounged or found - be it useful, beautiful, odd, playful, or thought provoking. Sixteen artists from across British Columbia will be represented, displaying over 40 works of art, inspired by their creative use of recycled, salvaged and used materials.

Arabella Campbell (02) received the distinguished $25,000 RBC Canadian Painting Competition award Tuesday, September 25, 2007 for her work, Physical Facts Series #6. The award, for emerging artists, is the largest in Canada. Campbell's painting, along with those of the two honourable mentions will tour Canada, including Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, November 24 - December 1, 2007.

Wessel & Lieberman Booksellers hosts an exhibition of the work Briony Morrow-Cribbs (05). The show highlights a series of etchings Briony has contributed to a newly published, fine-press edition of ISKANDARIYA, a long poem by Brigit Pegeen Kelly. The eleven intaglio prints are the result of a collaboration between Briony and the publisher, Rollin Milroy of Heavenly Monkey Press, and provide the illustrations for the limited-edition, letterpress printed book.

Jonathan Middleton (98) is a Vancouver-based artist, curator and sessional faculty member at ECI.  He is a founding member of the Projectile Publishing Society, through which he publishes the Fillip Review and sits as a member of its editorial board. Middleton served as Director/Curator of the Western Front Exhibitions Programme from 1999-2005. www.orgallery.org
