About SIT

The Summer Institute for Teens (SIT) is an intensive pre-university program featuring small classes taught by professional, practicing artists to prepare students for the next step in their creative career.

This immersive, one-month experience engages students through intensive studio practice and visual culture. Studio practice is complemented by guest artist talks, in-class discussions and critiques, and field trips to engage with the diverse art and design community of Vancouver.

The program culminates with a public exhibition of student work in Emily Carr’s Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons.

Weekly Schedule

Students have a choice of 11 studios in a range of disciplines across visual arts, media and design. No previous experience in the subject area is required.

SIT 2022 Delivery & Covid-19 Accommodations

Emily Carr University’s top priority is the health and safety of our students, instructors and staff. Our Teen Programs have safely returned to on-campus activities, in alignment with public health guidelines, as well as BC's Go-Forward Guidelines for post-secondary institutions.

In keeping with this, we are pleased to announce that the Summer Institute for Teens 2022 is scheduled to run in person at the Emily Carr University Campus. In addition to our on-campus studios, we are pleased to offer online options for the following studios: 2D Animation, Illustration, and Creative Coding + Web Design.

As always, this dynamic and engaging program will be delivered to the highest educational standard, and instructed by award-winning artists and designers.

How to Register

Registration is now closed for SIT 2022.

SIT is open to students ages 16-18, or who will have finished Grades 10 by July 1st, 2022. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For registration updates and reminders, please subscribe to our Teens mailing list.

Early Bird Deadline: April 29, 2022

Regular Deadline: June 15, 2022

Aboriginal Scholarship

Submissions for scholarship applications is now closed.

We are pleased to offer two full scholarships to students of Aboriginal ancestry. Please submit your application by March 1st, 2022.
