Moving to Vancouver will involve planning and perseverance to find housing in a competitive rental market. This guide will help you understand the housing market in Vancouver and give you some tips and resources to help you find a great spot.

Getting started

Start preparing before you arrive!

  • If you're coming from another country, be sure to visit our International Student Services page first.
  • Come prepared with references, identification, a resume and even a credit report, which you may need if signing a lease. Other documents that are good to have are proof of income (pay stubs or back statements), a reference letter, rental history with contact info and your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • Get to know Vancouver's neighbourhoods. Research the costs, local services, restaurants and lifestyle. Plan out your daily transportation route.
  • Know your rental budget and expenses and be aware of common rental scams. Read up on how to find a good roommate.
  • Plan a temporary place to stay upon arrival. Arrive early, even up to one month in advance.
  • Contact us if you need support!
