Duane Elverum is a sustainability educator in applied critical thinking. His teaching and research explores how universities can connect students to public issues, and proposes immersive, project-based, collaborative and dialogic learning models that are oriented toward civil engagement. He is currently an associate with SFU Center for Dialogue, and in 2009 was a visiting professor with the Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue Program at Simon Fraser University. Duane is also an assistant professor at Emily Carr University. He holds a degree with honours in architecture from UBC,  and this past fall he sat on the jury for Prefab 2020, an international architectural competition. He has crossed the Pacific Ocean in a sailboat five times.
