READ Books is Emily Carr University’s specialized art bookstore. Located adjacent to the Libby Leshgold Gallery, READ stocks a diverse collection of artists' books, monographs, exhibition catalogues, critical theory, artists’ editions, magazines and Emily Carr course textbooks. READ Books supports the ecology of artists' publishing in Vancouver, with public book launches and readings offered on a regular basis.

Emily Carr University Press celebrates the work of both emerging Vancouver-based artists, as well as international artists, by publishing artists’ books, monographs, collected writings and music projects. Published works are available at the Libby Leshgold Gallery.

The Emily Carr University Library: Kathy Slade

Faculty - Head of Gallery Communications + Publications Director of READ Books Kathy Slade works in a variety of media and has exhibited in North America, China, Europe, and the UK. In 2012 she was Artist in Residenz at Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna and in 2009 she received the Shadbolt Foundation VIVA Award. Slade’s recent exhibitions include It was a strange apartment full of books… at Galerie au rue 8 saint bon in Paris, IS EVERYTHING GOING TO BE ALRIGHT? at the Audain Gallery, Cue: Artists’ Video at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and Die Perfekte Ausstellung at the Heidelberger Kunstverein. Slade is the Founding Editor of the ECU Press and runs READ Books at the Charles H. Scott Gallery. She also runs Publication Studio Vancouver with Keith Higgins. Slade co-directs The Music Appreciation Society and is in the art band Cranfield & Slade, who have produced two concept albums on coloured vinyl titled 12 Sun Songs and 10 Riot Songs.
