• Market research, ideation, branding analysis with regards to target demographics, worked to a tight deadline within specific requirements, created digital and tangible prototypes, iteratively improved designs with client feedback, delivered designs on time to the client and label company in the required format

• Prototyping for size and composition focused attention on ease of label application and where certain important elements were positioned (eg. product graphics, UPC code, company name)

• my intent was to illustrate that various workers in an information system will need to work with different parts of the same overall information for different reasons and in different ways... so, their perspectives are different as is their mode of interaction. The audience can visually discern the pertinent information by colour and shape. The people are greyed out because they are not the focus, although their body language clearly suggests what they are doing with the information they care about.

Various Mental Map Preservation-Related Icons

• they are related to layout adjustments, Gestalt principles, and readability, and measures of mental map preservation

• this set of icons represents the set of metrics that can be used to quantitatively evaluate the significant and meaningful functional differences between two Force-Directed layout algorithms.
• each of these were used in my thesis defense presentation iconically to help the audience more easily maintain an understanding of the measurements throughout the talk.

• this illustration includes several Gestalt principles and is intended to represent the various aspects of the concept of Gestalt.

Graphic Design Instruction and Help

• this is a typical example of how I help students improve their work
• helped Emily Terry improve her "Lighthouse Park" poster which was created using both Photoshop and Illustrator
• the student and I discussed the specific suggestions in person and iteratively improved the poster
• we fixed layering problems (eg. ring on the lighthouse glass, vertical glass lines were in front of the red light enclosure, and other details), reworked some of the colours (eg. rock edges, mountains for depth, sky saturation), reworked the art for realism and consistency (eg. lighthouse railing shape, windows, rocky shore details), and resized and centered the type for overall balance
• after reviewing the various poster examples I provided to the class, we added a border to add to the retro style and match the typeface.
• after making these changes together, I encouraged her to continue working on her own to fix a few more details I pointed out (eg. shading under the walkway around the top lit side of the lighthouse to add depth)
• Emily showed this piece in ECU's Foundation Show in 2014 as her best piece of art for the year.

Logo Design / Web / Graphic Design Help

• students sent me an image of the post-its that they were planning on using, and sent me a link to their site that was under construction
• I reworked the logo (bottom right), suggested fonts, colours, shadows / textures, and more
• the students and I discussed the specific suggestions in person and improved the look of their website

Walkera "4#3b" RC Helicopter Battery Holder Design

• vector design with mm precision
• laser cut out of the flat plastic tops of a salad container
• part is very easy to fold together (along low evergy cut fold lines) and install
• screw holes are precisely positioned to ensure installation is easy
• part is light weight (1/4 as heavy as the default part)
• many can be created for very little money (shown below)
