Douglas Coupland: Atelier

Clark & Faria has announced an exhibition of new works by Douglas Coupland (84).

Atelier is a collection of new works by Douglas Coupland exhibited along with materials and objects found in his various working spaces. Offering visitors an organic route into his concentrated visual and verbal modes of perception, the show is cheeky, vibrant and eclectic - characteristics synonymous with his artwork. Viewers will gain a heightened sense of being in a creative space; the show is as much about the physical experience as the visual one.

The exhibit is rich in art world in-references-particularly riffing blatantly on the power Andy Warhol's ghost exerts on artists who followed him. Homage is paid with a series of simulated wigs pressed under glass like rare flowers and a Marilyn suite reconfigured in ways that are both casual and incisive. A collection of pornography-based collages serve as triggers to accentuate the show's anarchic tone, while a series of innocent looking 'word totems' catch the viewer off guard with their filth and humor. Abstract colored pieces take the energy of the show and amplify it back into the viewing space.
