Emily Carr alumna Brenda Draney (MAA 09) received the distinguished $25,000 RBC Canadian Painting Competition award Wednesday, October 8, 2009 for her work, Aim is Important. The award for emerging artists, is one of the largest in Canada. The work of all 15 finalists is currently on exhibit at the Musee d'art contemporain, Montreal. The three winning paintings will then travel to Toronto where they will be displayed at the Toronto International Art Fair October 22 - 26 followed by an exhibition of all 15 paintings at the Power Plant in Toronto from November 21 - 29.

Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition is a tribute to Canada's artistic talent. The goal of the competition is to support and nurture Canadian visual artists early in their career by providing them with a forum to display their artistic talent to the country and hopefully open doors to future opportunity.

This is the third consecutive year that an Emily Carr alumni has won the competition. Previous winners include Etienne Zack (00), who was the national winner in 2005, Arabella Campbell (02), who took the top prize in 2007 and Jeremy Hof (07), who won last year.

Congratulations!
