description

Thab is a template that utilizes unwanted wire hangers from North America to assist in improvin the portable dung stove used by Tibetian nomads.

1.6 million people die every year from indoor pollution. 3.5 billion wire hangers end up in the landfill every year in America. 5.6 million thab.s can be made from those wire hangers.

The main materials are unwanted wire hangers, clay and rocks. Clay and rocks can be found in Tibet. Wire hangers are very long lasting materials it melts at 1400- 1500 degree celsius. Clay is a thermal insulative material which stops heat from flowing from one place to another therefore the heat will be concentrated and only flow to the pot. Rocks are used for securing the stove.

The user group is Tibetan nomads and they travel from one place to another very often therefore thab. was designed to be portable. There are still 655,000 nomadic herders living in Tibet and 40% still use the traditional three stones fire inside their tents. Dung is used as fuel because dung can be found easily.

thab. is able to reduce smoke level and cooking time. It is inexpensive and it reuses waste.
