FNDT 152 S001: Video Essentials
Encompassing aspects of documentary, performance, narrative and sampled footage, this course introduces students to the technical fundamentals of camera, lighting and computer editing, and how these tools can be developed for artistic use within the medium.

Throughout her career, Matilda Aslizadeh has developed a dense visual language positioned between photography, video and animation that evokes the complexity and saturation of our contemporary media landscape. Her video installations and photo-based works draw on a vast array of visual influences -both esoteric and popular - to rethink narrative structures that persist in Western culture.
Her large scale productions use compositing techniques ubiquitous in Hollywood filmmaking as well as strategies that harken back to the early days of the “cinema of attractions” to generate fictional landscapes that form the background for storytelling.
Aslizadeh's work has been exhibited internationally in galleries and film festivals and has been the subject of several solo exhibitions including: Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (2016) Simon Fraser University Gallery (2012) La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse (2009) SKOL Centre des Arts Actuels (2005) Or Gallery (2005) and Artspeak (2003).
