FRMS 300 S031: Art Forums

This course is comprised of a regular program of visiting speakers including artists, critics, curators and cultural practitioners who will weave together presentations, discussions, and/or workshops on studio and professional practices. The speakers will exemplify the varied subject positions, content, methodologies, and a range of rhetorical and presentation strategies. This course will give students exposure to a broad range of practitioners in the field of contemporary art. There will be an emphasis on guest speakers who model a diverse range of art practices and who can unpack the realities of being a practicing professional artist in the 21st century. Class time will be spent attending these talks, and participating in other activities which may include the following: engaging with visitors in Q&A, workshops, studio visits, critiques, field trips, community-based activities and/or facilitated break-out groups. This course is pass/fail.
