FVIM 201: Editing I

In Editing I, students will learn core practices and techniques used in the art of film and video editing. Using current editing software applications and associated equipment, both the technical and aesthetic principles of video post production are explored. Fundamental concepts in critical, aesthetic, and historical aspects of editing are introduced. Editing techniques for genre, including experimental, dramatic narrative, documentary, internet video, performance and installation are examined. Relevant workflows are introduced. Students develop a range of skills such as project management, time remapping, key framing, effects and basic motion graphics. Students will work on both collaborative and individual projects to develop an editing practice that is both technically proficient and critically informed.

This course is valuable for media majors but also appropriate for students of any artistic discipline who wish to deepen and strengthen skills and critical engagement with time based media in their practice.

Priority is given to ANIM and IMED students in Year 2. Students outside of the registration priority group may register/waitlist for this course as of the registration rule release date.
