FVIM 330: Dramatic Practices

This interdisciplinary course focuses on how to direct drama and the production of work incorporating narrative storytelling for film, video, sound, installation and performance. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of dramatic structure and elements of character and dialogue through writing short scripts and directing them in a variety of genres and styles. Students explore and experience directorial approach, research, pre-production preparation, working with actors, blocking and stylistic interpretation through lectures, demonstration, workshops, exercises, screenings, assigned readings and discussion. Students will have regular critiques, and a tight timetable in which the projects must evolve from concept to completion. Students continue to refine their critical vocabulary, analytical and technical skills required for preparation for 4th year grad productions.

Priority is given to IMED students in Years 3 and 4. Students outside of the registration priority group may register/waitlist for this course as of the registration rule release date.
