GSML 622: Illus Masters Thesis Proj II

Integrating concepts learned in Advanced Studio and Writing Seminar, students initiate plans for an illustration-based research project informed by their investigative exploration. Mentored by faculty, students draw on knowledge acquired throughout their graduate experiences to examine innovative content, materials and techniques in the field of illustration. This concept driven, practice based investigation will culminate in an innovative and scholarly research effort. This research project will comprise a written component (up to 12,000 words) that analyzes the significance of illustration work as it pertains to art as a whole. An illustrative component can also accompany the thesis to further expand the role of visual problem solving and/or critical inquiry. Design documentation of process phases is required. Students are expected to keep a virtual studio to showcase the various stages of their thesis development, and to manage their project using a work-back schedule.
