NMSA 215: Aboriginal Stories+Storytelli

This studio course introduces students to storytelling and story work from an Aboriginal perspective. Students will experience stories in a variety of formats from Indigenous artists and storytellers across Canada. Students will learn about honouring oral traditions, processes of protocol, methodologies for writing and recording individual and community stories, sharing and transmitting stories and locating personal voice in their own story work. Film and video, performance, interactive digital technologies, pod plays, visual, written, oral and other story formats will be explored in order to understand the importance of collective and community voice, as well as to investigate the individual and personal experience. The class is designed to inspire students to use storytelling as a living history of ideas and traditions.
