SCLP 320: Gadgets+gizmos: Interactive

This studio course approaches sculpture as a practice devoted to making things which fly below the high-tech radar. It includes the potential for applications of basic digital technologies. The course involves workshops in electronics and mechanics, which may include experimentation with sensors (for example, light, sound, and motion) and investigations with materials in the production of interactive sculpture projects that are designed to explore the conceptual dimensions of outdated yet re-emerging technologies, recycled materials, cheap equipment and basic digital technologies. The course will examine the history of such an approach to sculpture and will include a consideration of the ethical implications inherent to working against the 'polished' or highly finished tendency of contemporary products. Research, presentations and critiques form an essential part of the course.

Priority is given to CRCP and VIAR students in Years 3 and 4. Students outside of the registration priority group may register/waitlist for this course as of the registration rule release date.
