It was with great sadness to learn of the passing of Joseph Plaskett, at the age of 96. Nominated by Lawren Harris, Joseph Plaskett won the first Emily Carr Scholarship in 1946.

In 2004, Joseph Plaskett established one of Canada's most significant art awards for Canadian graduate student painters. Each recipient receives $25,000 to travel and study abroad emulating the award opportunity given to Joseph Plaskett early in his career.
