Phil has been at Emily Carr University since 1999, teaching English, Media History, and Humanities, as well as the occasional Interdisciplinary Forum. His interests include the interplay between literature, art, and popular culture and he has written on these subjects for publications in Canada, the U.S., and Germany, done related interviews and features for CBC Radio, and was a Pop Culture Analyst for VTV's Vancouver Breakfast. Recent projects include writing duties on the feature-length documentary film Bloodied But Unbowed: The Story of Early Vancouver Punk, the presentation of a plenary paper at the Faulkner and Film conference at the University of Mississippi with corresponding essay in the conference volume, and an article in the Faulkner Journal*; both essay and article examine William Faulkner's novels of the 1930s within the context of the emergent media culture of that time.
