MHIS 205: Film + Media Aesthetics

This course develops the understanding of film, video and animation as total systems with interconnected elements. The curriculum introduces concepts of overall form and style. Topics include: the frame; mise-en-scene; cinematography; editing; sound; forms of narrative; genres; dramatic, documentary and experimental; as well as the technological and business context of production, distribution and exhibition. Through the close analysis of sequences within media works, students will develop analytical tools that will help them see more in every film, animation and video that they experience. Students attend both a screening and a lecture.
