VIFF 2011: Rebranding
description
This project was done in 2011 for an advanced typography class. The objective of the project was to create a theoreticall rebranding for that years Vancouver International Film Festival. I focused on a theme of distortion to inform my brand and visual choices. The logo it's self was created by manually augmenting a print out of the logo by shifting it while it was being rescanned into the computer. After several attempts I was left with a wordmark that quickly became the backbone of my rebranding. In the end I applied the brand across a range of deliverables, including: a bus shelter ad, stationary, a post card and business card.
"l'âme soeur (Soul Mate) 3D" Short film exploration
description
On August 17-18th, staff from the S3D Centre directed the first variable rate HFR shoot of its kind with talented independent crew and cast members in Vancouver BC. "L'âme Soeur (Soul Mate) 3D" is a dual short film / applied research project that takes full advantage of HFR technology. Shot on the RED Epics on a motorized Kernercam stereoscopic 3D rig in both standard and high frames rates, we used the most recent advances in technology to investigate a question we have been studying for the past year: If technology were capable of capturing and displaying a complete narrative that incorporates variable standard and high frame rates, what are the creative benefits/drawbacks of doing so?
Taking another looking at VIFF (Vancouver International Film Festival)
description
The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) currently has an established identity. HHow can the identity and branding of a film festival be re-conceptualized in terms of deviating from traditional aesthetics and signifiers that connote a straight forward presence of the film industry?
Although this project did not have any real practical application or implementation it does not mean the approach was not validated. On the contrary it proved a solid excersize in branding a film festival identity.
"ah.mazing" --- Kinetic Typography Animated Film
video
description
The goal of the assignment is to produce a "kinetic type" animated film between 1 to 5 minutes long, to show, rather than to tell by using moving typography. The film uses typographic elements and geometric shapes to create objects. This film is the introduction of a personal portfolio website [ah.mazing] which will be soon online.
