Jen Gellis (09 MAA) designed a Sensory Wall Component for the Whistler Inclusive Playground, which officially opened Thursday, March 11th, prior to the opening ceremonies for the Paralympic Games.

Robert Davidson | Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts

The winners of the 2010 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts were annouced by the Canada Council for Arts.

Robert Davidson, renowned for his totems, masks, paintings, print and jewellery, studied at the Vancouver School of Art in late 60's, where he credits the school for developing his drawing and design skills.

Greg Swales | Baron Gallery

Baron Gallery presents Letters to Cuba , paintings and photographs by Greg Swales (03).  Swales is a Canadian Artist of Cuban/British background. As far back as he can remember Swales knew he was destined for a career in the arts. He studied Photography at the Emily Carr Institute, now Emily Carr University of Art + Design. In his last year before completing his BFA, he began to rediscover his passion for painting and upon graduating moved to Cuba to study painting at the Superior Institute of Art in Havana.

Daina Warren | Aboriginal Curator-in-Residence at the National Gallery of Canada

In an announcement made on February 25, 2010, Daina Warren (00) is the new Canada Council Aboriginal Curator-in-Residence at the National Gallery of Canada. Daina is the second to benefit from the Canada Council for the Arts pilot project and will be working at the Gallery until the end of July 2011.

An exhibition of new paintings by Anishinabe artist Janice Toulouse (79) will be presented by Leighdon Studio Gallery. The new works are inspired by Janice’s studio in the rain forest of Wuikinuxv, BC.

Seeking the Nuance: Glaze experiments of the 60s and 70s from the Ceramics Studio at UBC is written by Glenn Lewis (58), edited by current fourth year student Phyllis Schwartz and with historical research by Debra Sloan (05). The book is published by the Potters Guild of BC (March 2010) and retails for $20 + GST.

This publication includes a collection of essays about the history of ceramics in British Columbia, a collection of thirty heritage glaze recipes and biographies of the glaze makers.
