The Institute features focussed and intensive studios, introducing young artists to creative practices from Aboriginal Arts to the Graphic Novel to 3D Design. Students from around  the world find themselves immersed in “the art school experience” – a once-in-a-lifetime explosion of creativity and fun.

In the first semester of 2011, Continuing Studies will offer courses and workshops with over 140 experienced instructors, whose areas of practice include nearly all the teaching areas of the University. From Communication Design to Cultural Studies to Illustration to Professional Development, Continuing Studies instructors bring a wealth of knowledge to innovative new curriculum aimed at artists and designers at every level, from non-traditional learners to mid-career professionals seeking new skills and inspiration.

The Summer Institute for Teens

Each year, the Summer Institute for Teens introduces a new crop of young artists to four weeks of intensive, full-time art and design education. On July 5, 72 eager teenagers arrived at Emily Carr to set up in the studios and labs, ready to take on one of the most unique experiences of their lives. From Drawing + Illustration to 3D Design to Digital Photography, the students have begun to explore their passion for art and design, and the experience of studying full-time at Emily Carr.

2010 Book Arts Institute

In July of 2010, Continuing Studies presents a wide variety of short courses and workshops on Book Arts, an exhibition, and some very special public programs. The Book Arts Institute was last presented at Emily Carr in 2008, and book enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting its return since then.

Discover Continuing Studies

Continuing Studies is dedicated to non-degree programming and lifelong learning, and has been serving a diverse range of students in this capacity since 1997. In the past 12 years, up to 4,000 students have registered each year, and as programming expands, more students are discovering Continuing Studies every day. The department's excellent instructors have earned a solid reputation and a loyal following of students, who return time and again for new inspiration.
