Michael de Courcy: Jazz in the Cellar

As part of former student Michael de Courcy's continuing public art project, intermedia 1967, he has published Jazz in the Cellar, a print-work and web installation dedicated to The Cellar Musicians and Artists Society of Vancouver.

Jay Gazley (MAA 08) will be exhibiting his arresting geometric paintings in Vanish: Art & Illusion, at the Art Gallery of Regina, Neil Balkwill Civil Arts Centre. Curated by Jack Anderson, the exhibition runs from December 11, 2008 to January 24, 2009.

David Khang: Deformes Biennale, Santiago de Chile

David Khang 2000 graduate and current sessional faculty, will be presenting his new work Once Septiembre con tankecito (the other 9.11), a site-specific work created for Deformes Biennale, in Santiago, Chile. The work remembers Chile's 1973 coup by Pinochet, Allende's death and contemporary resonances of the event. Once Septiembre is the third iteration in a series of site-specific performances titled Wrong Places.

Kunal Sen: Key Tumi

Kunal Sen's (08) film Key Tumi has been nominated for Best International Animation Film at the ASIFA India chapter of World Animation Day. The result of the competition will be decided on November 2, 2008. The film was recently screened at the Student Film Showcase of the Toronto International Film Festival in May, as well as the Montreal World Film Festival, Filmstock UK and the DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival in Washington DC.

Nat Dart: Vancouver International Film Festival

Animation graduate, Nat Dart (08), will be screening his animated film The Nature of Battle at the 27th annual Vancouver International Film Festival this week. The festival takes place until October 10, 2008. VIFF is among the largest film festivals in North America and is one of the largest cultural events in Canada. The Nature of Battle is a short animated film that questions current war spending and offers a dramatic oppositional solution to the wasteful and destructive practice.
