Marjorie Sorfleet: Campbell River Art Gallery

Marjorie Sorfleet (07) is one of the nine featured artists in a Printmaking Exhibition at the Campbell River Art Gallery. The show, Footprints, includes two of Marjorie's ceramic floor tile installations which provoke viewer response through the invitation to walk across the art and respond to the inevitable breakage that occurs. Their participation and response encourages the viewer to pause and reflect on the deeper meanings attached to the work and how that may relate to their own lives

Maya Ersan: Anamnesis 1

Maya Ersan (03) is a visual artist working in both Istanbul and Montreal. She completed a visual installation that became a performance using shadowplay, puppets and animation in Istanbul. For approximately two weeks in September the installation was housed in a window display in a vacant, muted city that has shrunk in size. On the night of September 24th the piece became a performance that weaved together traces of memory embedded in the city, memory that had become erased, enforced, archived and confirmed.

Marianne Nicolson: The House of the Ghosts

Marianne Nicolson (96) exhibits The House of the Ghosts at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The House of the Ghosts is a site-specific artwork illuminating the Georgia Street facade of the Vancouver Art Gallery from dusk to dawn every night.

Charlotte Glattstein (82) and Kurt Hutterli, mixed media artist, will exhibit two and three dimensional pieces in clay and mixed media in an exhibit entitled What the eye can touch. The exhibit takes place at Handworks Gallery in Oliver, B.C.

Sandy Lam Wins Prestigious Red Dot Award

Sandy Lam (08) has won a prestigious “red dot award” for one of her senior projects, Spaceless, completed in 2007. Spaceless is a deck installation kit for small apartment balconies where the tables and benches can fold into the deck.

100% Design - Mimi Law

Synthesis Studio, a Vancouver-based furniture design company co-founded by Mimi Law (99) and Mario Sabljak , has been selected to participate in 100% Futures, part of 100% Design at Earl's Court in London, UK, this September. Synthesis Studio is the only Canadian entry amongst fifty emerging design talents from the UK and around the world. Synthesis will be presenting their sustainable design, the Oval Bench, a versatile seating made of aluminum composite, 100% recycled rubber from truck tires and stainless steel.

Aparna Kapur (08) recently received a Special Mention citation at the Canadian Student Film Festival, part of the Montreal World Film Festival. Her film, Amma, is a poetic narration of a young girl's life and her deeply rooted relationship with her grandmother.
