Bartosz Nowakowski (07) was awarded the Government of British Columbia's Award for Student Animated or Motion Graphic Production of the Year for his animated work, Legend of Boruta, at the CAEAA's ELANS, held Friday, February 21, 2008. Bartosz also took home the ELAN in the Ready to Rocket category, which recognizes up-and-comers to watch out for! www.studioarmata.com

Kate Lee (07) took home the award for Best Student Art Direction - Animated Production, for her work, Mano Sinstra.

Exponential Future

Exponential Future features Isabelle Pauwels (01), Kevin Schmidt (97), Mark Soo (02), Corin Sworn (02), and Elizabeth Zvonar (01). The exhibition opens a window on the vitality of contemporary art in this city. Vancouver artists continue to be better known in the U.S. and Europe than they are in their own city. Curators Juan Gaitan and Scott Watson chose artists working in different media whose work involved a wide range of issues to give an overview of the new artistic thinking of our time and place.

Danielle Hoogenboom (05) has a solo exhibition at Gallery Yo-Yo February 8-23, 2008. Wanderlusting: The Adventures of a Narcissist, is an autobiographical mixed-media show resulting from Hoogenboom's international travels and her on-the-move transient art projects. The works in this exhibition were conceived and constructed nomadically as Hoogenboom moved through France, to San Francisco, to Bermuda and Montreal before finally arriving back in Vancouver.

Douglas Coupland - jPod

Canadian author Douglas Coupland (Alum: 84), who wrote his first film screenplay with last year's Everything's Gone Green, has written a new TV series based on his novel, JPod.

The 13-part series will be a look into Vancouver's video game industry and airs on CBC Television.

Anne Russell - New Works

New works by Anne Russell (07) show an interesting body of photography based on the idea of regeneration. Her images have been printed onto a watercolour paper, rather than photographic paper, which gives them an irresistible kind of texture, look and feel.
