Dynamo Arts Association presents In an unusual place, a gathering of works of photography, print, installation, and collage by artists whose pieces engage with the relationship between identity, physical space, and the social tensions unleashed by the intersection of these two forces. 

Featuring work by current students Ray Chen, Luke Maddarod and Alina Senchenko and alumnus Hei Lam Ng ('14).

POLYPHONICS refers to the harmony of two or more textures in a melodious composition. This exhibit is to explore harmony between colours or chords. Unless working with light, artists work in a subtractive colour model to achieve these distinct ideas. Explorations are of colour harmonies such as cool, warm, complementary, analogous, monochromatic, or triadic, to create a whole concept. Works presented are largely involving multimedia imagery whether mimicking, projecting, or displaying.

This exhibition will show projects of emerging local artists in a variety of formats including media, installation, and painting.

Soldiers’ Stories is being recognized simultaneously as the world’s oldest 3-D film and one of its newest! We are proud of the fact that Oscar-winning producer Nicholas Reed and producer/director Jonathan Kitzen brought their powerful story to the modern screen with expertise from Emily Carr’s own S3D Centre.

The film recently debuted in Beverly Hills, has been shown in LA, New York and London, and now runs regularly at the National Infantry Museum (IMAX theatre) outside Fort Benning, Georgia. With the compelling voices of recent American vets, and narration by Mickey Rooney, never-before-seen, soldier-taken, century-old 3-D photographs were converted for the modern screen with the stereoscopic expertise of Dr. Maria Lantin and her research team at Emily Carr University. 

TEDxVancouver is taking place this week, and along with the usual roster of fantastic speakers, you'll find a number of artworks, including live painting by our talented alumni, students and staff.

E: September is always an exciting time at Emily Carr - what were some of the social highlights facilitated by the Students' Union?

Beayue Louie, a fourth year Industrial Design student, was awarded the 2013 Association of Canadian Ergonomists Undergraduate Student Award for her assistive design project, Play By Ear: Adaptive Earring Clips, which was presented at ACE’s 44th Annual Conference: "From Sea to Sky: Expanding the Reach of Ergonomics" in Whistler, BC (October 2013).

Our sense of self is often shaped by how we believe others view us. Thus, the way we express ourselves through clothing and accessories plays an important role in the development of our identity. This serves true for both individuals with a disability and those without.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce that three students have been selected as winners in the student category of the 2013 Applied Arts Awards.

Congratulations to current students  Elena Syrovatkina and Daniel Gleiberman for their joint project, A Colorful Guide to Colorblindness , and recent grad Sam Jiang ('13) for Paper Engine, his personal website..

The University is pleased to announce that 2013 grad Rowan Liivamägi has received the British Columbia Industrial Design Association's Student Award of Excellence for her project Väärtus -- assistive jewellery that empowers women with arthritis.

The BCID Student Award of Excellence is presented each year to a student in the industrial design program at Emily Carr University whose thesis project demonstrates an outstanding understanding of the product development process.

MAA candidates Amanda Arcuri and Britta Fluevog are featured in a group exhibition, Neither/Nor, at Ayden Gallery.

Neither/Nor is an exciting exhibition, as the Gallery temporarily departs from its focus on contemporary painters, to showcase the multidisciplinary diversity of some of Vancouver's most original and innovative artists. Featuring painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, textiles, installation, and performance works.
