In short, it’s never ECUAD. “But the website!”, you say. We’ll get to that.

Choosing the right name for the situation can be tricky. Luckily, we’ve got a handy guide to choosing the right name for the situation. Here’s a summary to get you started.

In day-to-day writing, use Emily Carr University. This includes writing emails, making a poster or in a document.

For day-to-day informal usage, such as while teaching, referring to the school on social media or in writing on our website, Emily Carr will do.

What about our full name—Emily Carr University of Art + Design? Reserve that for formal citations, like signage, press releases or for formal printed materials like diplomas. You’ll notice the “+” in there. It’s our little bit of flair, so please don’t eschew it for a plain old ampersand (&).

ECU is our only acronym. Use it when our name is repeated frequently.

Don’t use ECIAD, ECUAD or EC.

Why?

Have you ever tried saying “ECUAD” out loud?

As for our website, our domain name has been out of date since the university's days on Granville Island. (Sorry!) Updating it is a bit complicated, but we look forward to it happening soon.
