Welcome to National Portfolio Day at ECU!

Emily Carr University is thrilled to host National Portfolio Day Vancouver with special guests from other art and design schools across North America and Europe. It’s exciting to have you here to meet representatives and faculty from 21 art and design schools.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect today at National Portfolio Day.

Underground parking is available at 565 Great Northern Way in the South Flatz Lot #119 and will be open from 6am.

Check-in will begin at 9:30am on Saturday, November 8. When the doors open, please be patient and wait in line to be checked in.

You will get a pink wristband to indicate that you’re showing your portfolio. Family members and guardians get white wristbands and will be directed to the viewing lounge, the cafeteria or can get coffee at Nemesis or Kafkas nearby.

If a family member or guardian needs to accompany you, please speak with an ECU employee at the registration desk to discuss your accessibility needs. We’re happy to help so your portfolio day goes smoothly.

Please review our code of conduct for guidelines on how the event will proceed.

Head to the info desk to get more key information on registration and where to go for your reviews. You will need to line up and reviews will begin at 11am. Only learners may line-up for reviews – family members and guardians cannot queue for you.

Reviews will take place from 11am – 3pm, and registration will be cut off close to 3pm.

You may visit as many schools as you’re able to within this timeframe. There will be ECU staff in pink t-shirts to help guide you if you need help.

The ECU Campus offers step-free access to all spaces and wheelchair-accessible gendered and gender-neutral washrooms on all floors.

If you have questions about accessibility or require accommodations to participate in National Portfolio Day, you can request assistance in three ways:

  • By emailing npd@ecuad.ca in advance of the event.
  • By visiting the info desk at check-in.
  • By approaching any ECU employee wearing a pink shirt.

There will be long line-ups at the event. If you have difficulty standing for long periods, please speak with an ECU employee in a pink shirt so that we can help you find portable seating while you wait. If you need a break from the crowds, we have a quiet lounge at the Aboriginal Gathering Place on Level 2 (main floor). Please see an ECU employee in a pink shirt for directions.

Student participants in National Portfolio Day typically wait in line without their family members, guardians, or other guests. If you require a guest to wait with you for accessibility reasons, speak to an ECU employee when you check-in so that we can accommodate you appropriately.

  • Your enthusiasm! Reps from each school want to hear about you and your process as an artist!

While students are having portfolio reviews, here's what you can do:

  • Visit ECU’s Library
  • Visit the quiet lounge or the Aboriginal Gathering Place on Level 2
  • Grab a coffee in the cafeteria
  • Visit a local gallery – grunt - 6-minute walk from ECU
