ECU's priority remains supporting your education as well as your health and safety, whether on campus or at a distance. If you feel sick, please stay home. Contact your family doctor, phone 8-1-1, or use the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment for guidance.

If you are ill, or if you have been ordered to self-isolate, please contact your instructor if you will miss any course-related deadlines. You are not required to disclose the specifics of your medical condition to your supervisor or instructor. This is true of COVID-19 and any other illness.

How can I protect myself and others?

The most important ways you can prevent COVID-19 are to wash your hands often, avoid touching your face, and stay home if you are sick.

Follow the same advice that public health officials recommend for the cold and flu season:

  • Stay home if you have even mild cold or flu symptoms.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow if a tissue is unavailable.

  • Practice physical distancing and avoid others who are unwell.

What does self-isolation mean?

Self-isolation means staying in a room stay that is not shared with anyone else, and limiting contact with others. More information on self-isolation can be found on the BCCDC website.
