Place the headset on your head, headphones on your ears....and in a few moments, you will be projected into another world, in which everything is possible! Virtual reality fascinates and raises so many questions. We dive into the virtual environment, and we forget for a moment our presence in the real world. But how is this possible? Artistic creation in virtual reality requires knowledge and know-how at the crossroads between several disciplines: scientific, technological, psychological and artistic fields.

Dr. Guez will present some basic principles while evoking the way in which she has developed virtual and mixed reality experiences. As the curator, she will illustrate these principles with examples connected with RectoVRso: International Festival of Art and Virtual Reality that she founded in the Laval Virtual, France. And in particular the works that will be displayed here in Vancouver as part of RectoVRso @Vancouver, September 28 + 29th at the Centre for Digital Media. The exhibition features alum Robin Stethem (BDes 2016), CEO and Co-Founder of the Museum of Other Realities.

About Dr. Judith Guez:
Judith Guez is an artist-curator in VR/MR. Her research focuses on understanding and creating illusions between reality and virtuality to explore new artistic forms, mobilizing the concept of presence and wonder. She has exhibited many artworks (La chambre de Kristoffer, Lab’Surd, InterACTE, Liber, Rock Art Rocks me…) in several international venues (Ars Electronica in Austria, Gaîté Lyrique, GoogleLab, BPI Centre Pompidou, Centre des arts Enghien, MOCA Taipei in Taiwan, VR World Forum in Switzerland). She is currently founder and director of the Laval Virtual’s artistic division. In this context, she has created in 2018 the international Art & VR festival RectoVRso in Laval (France). She is also the co-founder of VRAC (VR Art Collective).

About RectoVRso @Vancouver:
To celebrate its 115 year anniversary, the Alliance Française of Vancouver invites Vancouver into a unique, artistic and immersive journey. A digital arts and virtual reality exhibition featuring 11 artworks and artists selected by RectoVRso, an international exhibition created in France. XR technologies open a field of new possibilities for artists, new worlds to explore and new means to create unprecedented interaction with the audience. This exhibition questions the progress of these technologies at the threshold between artistic and scientific fields.
