Alumni Lynn Onley and Bill Morton, two of BC’s most prominent working artists are hosting a one-day art show to be held at the prestigious Sylvia Hotel Sunday, September 18th. and will feature a large range of both Onley and Morton’s work where the landscapes of BC are prominently featured.

Both artists, who cite the natural world as a huge source of inspiration, are thrilled by this joint venture. “We are both so excited to be showcasing our work together after being friends for so many years and we are especially pleased that the pieces we have compiled for the show demonstrate our range as artists,” said Morton.

Lynn Onley was born in Ontario in 1953 and began her journey as an artist early, under the guidance of her father and mentor, well-known master painter, Toni Onley. She studied fine arts at Capliano University, the Vancouver School of Art and Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where she graduated in 1982. Despite growing up in the shadow of such a famous father, Lynn’s artistic style is distinctly her own; with expansive gestural paintings, layered with fine details being her signature style. “Because I majored in sculpture, it has enhanced my work as an artist. I’m lucky, because when I’m out on location and looking at the landscape, it looks 3D to me, it’s not just a flat painting. I like evocative landscapes, I like enigma. I want mystery in my work, I like to capture a mood.”

Bill Morton was born in Vancouver in 1946 and began his career as an artist after studying at UBC and the Vancouver School of Art. Morton has spent a great deal of his life traveling and working as an artist, all-over the province of BC. A spiritual person by nature and incredibly young at heart, Morton’s connection with the natural world is reflected in his work that includes impressionistic, atmospheric landscapes, as well as abstracts. “I discovered when I was 21 years old that I had a great imagination and I just want to keep cultivating that. Art touches all elements of life: it’s society, psychology, history, anthropology, language and symbolism. It’s a combination of many things and it has always been a fascinating pursuit for me.” Morton’s influences include Sisley, Gaugin, Matisse, Picasso and Kandinsky.
