Symbiotic
is a student-led exhibition that celebrates the coming together of creative praxis at Emily Carr University. This exhibition evolved based upon the uniting of separate disciplinary ecosystems in the institution, which are concerned with similar content. That subject matter being nuanced investigations of ecological relationships, organic forms and the tangibility of knowledge.

The exhibition is comprised of over 10 unique artworks that range in ephemerality, experimentation, and transformation, beginning with emilee’s installation work. This work depicts three- and two-dimensional versions of rocks, and was created by combining repurposed man-made materials with a variety of print media techniques. Echoing throughout the space are Lyrica’s minimalist abstract paintings, which use ambiguous patterns to recreate organic forms (such as lichen) found in the Pacific Northwest.

Through the intimacy of artist books, Mirela experiments with the sculptural qualities of bookmaking, with themes of decay, knowledge, and growth. Her delicate paper sculptures mimic fungal growths and organic shapes and confront the viewers' position and relationship to these forms in space.

Lastly, Lyndsay’s biomorphic landscapes are evocative of pathogenic growths, plant organisms, and marine bacteria. By using methods of sculpture, she explains that her series is a post-human “biologization of the machine and an exploration of how the intersection of biology and architecture can reimagine life on cellular and subcellular levels.”
