Guadalupe Martinez (Argentina, 1980) is an artist and educator based in Vancouver, on traditional Coast Salish territories. Her practice is concerned with creating spaces that privilege the body, the sensorial, intimacy, and land-nature connections that nurture our state of consciousness. Her research of late titled “sensorial visualities” and “expansive pedagogies”, shape her performative practice as artist and educator inviting a way of world-making; to co-create a vision of the Self and the world that may thrive through attunement and lived experience.
Her ongoing project CUERPO collective-body functions as a site and methodology to explore embodied research and somatic activism with a fluid group of young artists and mentors. A holistic way to occupy the often-disembodied spaces of academia and art institutions; allowing for a more expansive space to integrate and share knowledge.
Her work has been shown extensively internationally and across Canada. In Vancouver her work was exhibited at SFU Art Gallery, The Vancouver Art Gallery, Or Gallery, Access Gallery, VIVO Media Arts Centre, Grunt Gallery, among others.
Presented by the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, hosted by FRMS: 300: Art Forums Course.
