Linda Swanson is an artist whose interests are grounded in the metamorphic nature of ceramic materials and processes.

Her work engages the enigmatic properties of matter at an elemental level and the capacity of wonder to question how and what we know. Forefronting experiential encounters with material in its various states, Swanson’s raw clay installations and kiln-fired ceramics have been exhibited in North America, Europe and Asia with recent exhibitions at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, A-B Projects in Los Angeles, the Bernardaud Foundation in France, the Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taipei, the Galerie Maria Lund in Paris, the Cluj Biennale of Ceramics in Romania and presently at La Guilde in Montreal.

Swanson studied ceramics at the Tekisui Museum in Ashiya, Japan, earned a BFA in Ceramics from Cal State Long Beach and an MFA from Alfred University. Since graduating in 2005, she has taught ceramics at Alfred University, the Kansas City Art Institute and currently teaches at Concordia University in Montreal. Recent research projects include blending clay and glaze to make new materials and exploring local clay as a more sustainable and ethical approach to ceramics.
