Featuring work from the 2023 cohort of MFA degree candidates, from March 25 to April 9.

All are invited to attend the Opening Reception, March 30, 6-9pm.

The culmination of two years of intensive artistic research, the exhibition showcases the results of studio-based education and critiques integrated with seminar readings and discussions.

The MFA Program comprises an international cohort of emerging artists who work with renowned faculty and distinguished visiting curators, scholars and artists. This Thesis Exhibition with the title biometaphysicalmateria showcases the diverse practices made by the MFA class of 2023, with work addressing anamnesis and the feminine body, genealogy and medical imaging, plein air painting, light and perception, compostable materials, environmental aesthetics and bio-active naturescapes, ethics and equity, queer Black histories, queer worlding as well as local and indigenous storywork through animation, drawing, filmmaking, installation, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

The Thesis Exhibition and opening reception are held at Emily Carr University’s Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons and RBC Gallery.

Members of the public are invited into the gallery for our reception taking place on March 30 from 6pm–9pm.
