Please join us for an online Zoom workshop with Sophie. P Voyer from Atelier Retailles, the papermaking studio in Montreal, on hands-on approaches to DIY papermaking! Open to ECU students, faculty, and staff. Saturday, November 21 from 1-4 pm (PST).

In this workshop, Sophie will introduce you to the basics of papermaking: what is paper? What form/texture/surface can it take? What can it be made from? How can you be creative and resourceful with papermaking?

Through live demos, you will witness and learn how to make pulp as well as various techniques for sheet formation. This workhop will focus on some DIY approaches to papermaking: how can you make paper at home, in your kitchen, with homemade equipment and basic tips using what you have on hand. It will offer possibilities to think about paper in new ways that involve readily available materials, recycled matter, organic leftovers and natural elements. The repurposing of found materials is central to this workshop.

Our guest papermaking wizard, Sophie P. Voyer is the founder of Atelier Retailles. Her mission is to promote experimentation and knowledge exchange with the community. She holds a BFA from Concordia University and has been working professionally as a papermaker for several years. She will introduce her practice and studio to you and share her deep passion for paper.

Sophie is inviting you to bring something you think could be used in papermaking, either as a base material for pulp/as a tool/as surface treatment. During the interactive part of the workshop, you will be be able to ask her how or if the material you brought can be transformed into paper.

This workshop is brought to you by the Audain Faculty of Art.
