Echo-Orientation: Why Do We Need to Practice Bi-Scriptuality?
Join Faculty Teaching Fellows, Joe O'Brien and Reyhan Yazdani for the first workshop in the Echo-Orientation series, a month-long collaborative gathering of discussions around themes of decolonization, language, relationship building, trust and access needs.
Week One, Mar 14, 3:30- 4:30 pm: Why Do We Need to Practice Bi-Scriptuality?
Translation is not simply a transition between one language to another. It is a paradigm shift, moving between different world views, expressions of self, land and community, ways of mark-making, practices of listening, and witnessing. Why Do We Need to Practice Bi-Scriptuality? is a workshop that explores these ideas and reflects collaboratively on language, decolonization, translation and untranslatability, in both dialogue and written form. Some of the questions we will discuss are: What happens when you speak more than one language? What is the role of translation and how does it impact teaching and learning experiences?
