Emily Carr at Vancouver Mini Maker Faire 2017

Faculty, alumni and students from ECU's Material Matters group will again be presenting at this year's Mini Maker Faire.
ECU’s Material Matters research group will be participating as a Maker Group at this year’s Vancouver Mini Maker Faire (VMMF), June 10 and 11th at the PNE Forum.
Led by Co-Directors Hélène Day Fraser and Keith Doyle, The Material Matters research group catalyzes disciplines, students and faculties within Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Their interests lay at the intersections of public knowledge transfer, R&D partnerships and the development and evaluation of new 3D print mediums, hardware and methodologies for design and production.
The group works with a diverse roster of external partners who may be industry-based, NGOs, non-profit, or community groups, and their work is complemented by university-applied research partnerships, faculty-led research creation and emergent social forums for exchange.

At this year’s Mini Maker Faire, Material Matters will display current research and technology used for prototyping objects and test pieces, as well as 3D printers and molds. They'll have their clay 3D printer running, using liquid deposition modeling to create various forms, and will also offer traditional coil-building, done by hand. On the second day of the Faire, they’ll be hosting a panel discussion among the MM team and collaborators on the topic of “New Craft”.
The Vancouver Mini Maker Faire runs Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 at the PNE Forum. Tickets are available online. Emily Carr is a Gigabyte Sponsor of this year’s Faire.
