Magdalena Ciemierkiewicz – a visual artist born in 1992 in Subcarpathia, Poland. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2016), where she is currently a PhD candidate.
Raised in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, Ciemierkiewicz draws on personal experience and regional memory to shape her artistic practice. Her work examines the interpenetration of cultures and the spiritual resonance of fragmented histories, engaging with themes such as multidimensional identity, women’s histories, and forms of memory within challenging historical contexts.
Working across textiles, printmaking, video, and voice, she creates interdisciplinary narratives that connect the personal with the collective. In 2024, she received the Claus Michaletz Preis (Germany). Her works have been presented at KVOST (Berlin, 2024), Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Los Angeles, 2024), ISCP (New York, 2024), Almine Rech Gallery (New York, 2025), Galeria Labirynt (Poland, 2025), and the 14th Manifesta Biennial (Secondary Archive, Kosovo, 2022), among others.
Presented by the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, hosted by FRMS: 300: Art Forums Course.
