We get it. Always doing the right thing can be difficult.

Green bin, blue bin, who knows? Plastic straws are just way too convenient.

We’ve all slipped up from time to time, but now we have the opportunity to pause for a moment and acknowledge our mistakes.

Please join us, and many others as we prepare to collectively release our confessions and replenish the ocean.

===================================

Ocean Confessional
is a public installation where passersby are invited to reconsider their relationship with the ocean. With the ocean acting as confessor, participants express and seek forgiveness of past and present environmental transgressions. This is mediated through the use of a piece of water-soluble paper, each containing a small amount of calcium-carbonate which dissolves within a few seconds on contact while helping to slow down the acidification of our oceans. The work is a form of public ceremony, brought into the community in order to create a more nuanced, open and ongoing dialogue about how our current behaviours are affecting the ocean, and in doing so promote pro-environmental actions.

Ocean Confessional
was developed by Netherlands based designers Pete Fung Ho Ching and Samein Shamsher in partnership with DESIS ECU, and will be exhibited during 2019 Helsinki Design Week as part of the exhibition, Critical Tide.
