The Britannia Art Gallery's current exhibition, Paris: Love and Inspiration, showcases the recent paintings and photographs of artist Deanna Fogstrom, which have grown out of the artist's inspiration from and love of Paris. The exhibition is now available for viewing online until Aug 28, 2020.
At the heart of Deanna Fogstrom’s practice is a desire to pause and resist today’s inhuman speed. Her recent paintings and photographs are based on processes of reflection and emotional attachment to places, specifically Paris. Linguistic studies, travel, photographs, text, maps, and journals provide important references for this work. At times her process parallels knitting, stitch by stitch, stroke by stroke, reconstructing Paris in connections and patterns which make up an intricate, massive collection of streets, buildings, parks and quartiers or neighbourhoods.
Deanna’s credentials include, a BA (French) from SFU, a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Concordia University (Québec).
