Oct 29th: Bladerunner (1982) “The Final Cut”
The film that popularized the cyberpunk genre and inflected it with a rain-soaked, neon-lit noir style. Special effects supervisor Douglas Trumbull used motion control cameras, detailed matte paintings, and extensive miniatures to render a dystopian vision of future (now past) 2019 Los Angeles. Trumbull’s work on 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) inspired a generation of effects artists and filmmakers, and his work is every bit as impressive here.
