The Moccasin + Beading Show
Attend the opening reception 4-7pm January 7th in the Concourse Gallery or visit the exhibition which runs from January 7-13, 2016.
Works by the Emily Carr Community
The Emily Carr University community is proud to present The Mocassin Project, an exhibition of a year-long initiative run by the University's Aboriginal Gathering Place. The project invited staff, faculty and Aboriginal students to participate in a Moccasin making workshop. Through demonstrations, videos and guest artists, participants learned about the history, context and art form of moccasin design through the hands-on creation of their own pair of moccasins. It was a wonderful interdisciplinary opportunity for interaction and community engagement.
While the moccasins and beadwork techniques demonstrated were focused on Aboriginal tradition, participants have been encouraged to create designs that reflect personal art practices and cultural backgrounds.
