Are you in your 4th year at ECU? Please join faculty members Sarah Van Borek and Tara Wren for a workshop on making a video for your portfolio or exhibition.

No previous video experience or fancy camera necessary!

Why Make a Video Portfolio?
In this modern era of digital marketing, video is an essential way of promoting your work regardless of your artistic medium. This toolkit will guide you through the process of making a simple video about your work, with different options for how much time and effort you want to put into this project.

Why Support Storytelling for Inclusivity?
Every year, new students join the ECU community from near and far – there is a lot to adapt to before students feel connected and comfortable enough to thrive in their academic life, creative practice and overall life experience. As 4th year students, you've done it! You've navigated your way through the ups and downs, the sideways and in-betweens. Hearing about your experiences at Emily Carr – what you brought with you when you came, and what you found while you were here – can make a big difference for first year students, helping them feel more welcomed, included and accepted for who they are, regardless of their background, their identities, or their reasons for coming to Emily Carr. Hearing about varied and honest experiences from you can provide a crucial foundation for the success of these students.

For this project, you are invited to think of ways that your lived experiences and your academic work inform your studio work. This toolkit is being provided as part of: (a) Sarah Van Borek's EdTech Research Fellowship with an organization called BCcampus, where Sarah's research aims to enable students to do storytelling through video to contribute more diverse ways of knowing and being in online and blended (online + face-to-face) learning environments; and (b) Tara Wren's project which aims to understand and share how, as artists and designers, we use skills and information from different areas of our lives and our education to inform our work.

Why Participate in a Group Exhibition?
Reach a wider audience for your work by choosing to include your video in any of these spaces: our May Graduation exhibit, our September orientation exhibit, our ECUAD webpage, and as part of Sarah’s research publication.
