Join Canadian painter and Winsor & Newton materials instructor Michael King for a special demonstration of Winsor & Newton Artist Oil Colours and mediums. This session will explore the full range of oil paints while examining the qualities that set them apart.
Michael will discuss how to choose between professional and introductory ranges—highlighting how both meet the same rigorous quality standards—and guide you through the role of mediums in modifying viscosity, sheen, drying rate, and texture. You’ll also learn how oil paint films dry through oxidation, why “fat over lean” is essential for long-term stability, and best practices for creating durable paint surfaces.
Along the way, you’ll gain insights into pigment types, transparency, opacity, and lightfastness, as well as practical tips on reading paint labels and choosing brushes.
The first 40 participants will receive a Winsor & Newton samples—a perfect way to get started with these materials, and as a thank-you for attending the demo.
Michael King is known for his ability to present complex technical information in a clear, approachable way. A passionate plein air painter, he draws on years of experience and with a background in Industrial Design from Carleton University, Michael brings precision, design thinking, and clarity of instruction to every workshop and demo.
Whether you are new to oil painting or refining your craft, this is a don’t-miss opportunity to deepen your understanding of Winsor & Newton’s Artist Oil Colours and mediums, and how to get the very best from them in your own work.
