Playful, beautiful and powerful, the piece welcomes people into the school and reflects the vibrancy of the community.
Commissioned by the New York City Department of Education and the NYC School Construction Authority in collaboration with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program, Suzy Taekyung Kim's (03') work has been installed at the the Cambria Heights School, P.S. 176, Queens, New York.
Frolic In The Clouds of Encore is a large-scale assemblage painting composed of acrylic paint, glitter and color glass mirrors that juxtapose on eight interconnected customized wood panels. This floor to ceiling artwork welcomes everyone into the school and reflects the vibrancy and vitality of the Cambria Heights community.

Playfully intermingling the clouds, dots and vertical stripes, the painting provides a dynamic space for all who observe it. Mirrored clouds represent dreams which are never fixed in form and are always changing. The interaction between dots and clouds reveals frolicking movement creating harmonies and dissonances in colors and textures. Vertical stripes are weaved in and out to emphasize the upward movement of the clouds. Gazing at their reflection in the mirrored clouds, the viewers themselves are both the prelude, finale and encore of the artwork which holds the never-ending stories of a hopeful future.
The Brooklyn-based artist would like the viewers to experience the powerful orchestra of colour, form and movement expressed in this work. In her view, the blooming and intense energy is unique not only to flowers but also to other seemingly ordinary experiences in life, encouraging everyone to appreciate the process of attraction. The artist hopes to share the celebratory facets of life and an uplifting visual interaction through her artwork.
