The ECU Library + Archives is hosting its first Books to Prisoners book drive for the month of December.

Books To Prisoners BC is a non-profit, grass-roots organization begun in Vancouver in 1992. It is dedicated to providing prisoners with reading materials. Books are sent to prisoners across BC upon request and also to prison libraries.

These are the specific types of books that we are looking for as part of our book drive. All books need to be in good condition and softcover:

  • Adult colouring books
  • English dictionaries
  • Art and art instruction (especially drawing, tattoo design, lettering/calligraphy, Northwest Coast Indigenous art, autobiographies of artists and musicians)
  • Hobbies (including origami)
  • Trades (construction, home repair, boat building, blacksmithing, etc.)
  • Writing and/or publishing

You can view a longer list of books on the Vancouver prison wish list.

You can also donate money to help pay for shipping to prisons. Information is on the donation website page.

There will be a box inside the front doors of the library where you can place your book donations for the month of December.
