Emily Carr will be partially closed on Sept. 19 and classes will be cancelled.

As you may know, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, will be a federal holiday to recognize Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her state funeral. The provincial government has followed suit and announced that public post-secondary institutions will close on Sept. 19.

Emily Carr University will be observing the holiday on Sept. 19, which means classes will be cancelled. However, given the sensitivities attached to this day and the complexities around the colonial legacy of the monarchy, the Aboriginal Gathering Place will remain open for anyone wishing to access their services or gather with their peers.

Faculty will work directly with students to ensure the curriculum will not be disadvantaged as a result of Monday’s closure. Please feel free to contact me at mguno@ecuad.ca with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Marcia Guno, Vice-Provost, Students
