Some tips from your friends at IT Services, plus a chance to win one of five gift cards.

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, IT Services will be sharing information on how you can actively assist in building stronger cybersecurity defenses at Emily Carr.

Keep an eye on your inbox for these upcoming modules:

  • Wednesday, October 6: Password Security
  • Friday, October 22: Phishing Attempts

Those who complete the quizzes in both of the upcoming emails this month will be entered in a draw to win one of five $25 gift cards at Nemesis Coffee!

Winners will be randomly selected and announced this November.

What is cybersecurity, anyway?

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, servers, networks, and sensitive data from malicious attacks. Cybersecurity techniques may be as simple as creating strong passwords on our devices, or as complex as resolving serious incidents like identity theft or ransomware attempts.

Did you know?

  • Educational institutions are a known target for cybercriminals. This makes us high risk for data breaches that can result in serious reputational damage, service disruption and financial loss.
  • Cybersecurity methods rely on people, processes and technology to create strong defenses and mitigate risk.

The best way to protect yourself and our organization from cyberattacks is by participating in cybersecurity awareness education and training initiatives. Familiarizing yourself with the most common forms of attack methods will help to keep our network safe and secure.

Get started on improving your cybersecurity knowledge today by watching this short video on malware and ransomware!

We look forward to your participation,
